A very accessible canyon with a beautiful stream. This is a best easy day hike very accessible to all hikers in the Helena area. It’s also living proof that we can correct our mistakes, that development can be reversed. This trail used to be a road, and a well-traveled one at that, called the Figure Eight Route, a significant tourist attraction in the Helena area and promoted as such by the Helena National Forest and local chamber of commerce. Then in 1981 a flood washed away the road for the second time, and the Forest Service decided to make it a trail. After you hike through this picturesque canyon, send the agency a thank-you letter.

This is a nice hike for those not wanting to have a lot of elevation change...it is a very easy hike. There are some great views of the cliffs above you on both sides. If you look, you can see the lookout point from the end of the Hanging Valley trail high above you.
