The trail has several uphill sections, but it is constantly shaded and there are a ton of places to stop and rest. The first 4 miles are through thick forest and there is sign of animal activity so be alert. You cross over 2 AMAZING meadows and get a breath-taking view of the rockys. Definitely amazing.
