Patapsco Valley State Park (PVSP), straddling the Patapsco River and encompassing sections of four counties, can rightly be considered central Maryland’s recreation granddaddy. Sprawling over 32 miles of the Patapsco River and encompassing 14,000 acres, PVSP possesses numerous hiking trails and an abundance of outdoor recreation activities within its five developed areas. Aside from its great reputation for hiking, PVSP offers fantastic fishing and mountain biking. Those who haven’t been to the park might never guess the beauty and solitude one can easily find simply by walking a mile or two (or less). It’s a haven for families who want a couple of nights away from home but want to reach their destination in a few minutes. For these folks, even the occasional rumble of a train traversing the parkland is a small price to pay for the abundance of activities available and the ability to sleep safely in nature just a few miles from home.
