Hiking the Shark River Loop is a joy for human and dog. In winter, its gently rolling terrain offers solitude and shelter from the wind. Its open woods and sandy roads are pleasant and easy—even on the “challenging” trail. In all seasons, it is a birder’s paradise. Your dog will love the scents and sounds and can take a dip in the Shark River to get cool.
Saunter on a wide, flat sand road, a footpath over forested sand dunes, and riverside with a few short heart-pumpers up stairways. It is a great solo hike with your dog when no one else has the time to accompany you. Less than a mile from the Garden State Parkway, this is a “no-excuses” walk—so get out with your dog who will welcome the outing.
