An 8.5-mile loop, the trip around Turtle Ridge is a pleasant journey over moderate, rolling hillsides. The well-constructed path winds through changing landscapes, past a collection of different-sized wetlands, and over rocky ridges with tremendous views of Baxter State Park. Despite its length the loop is a good choice for hikers of many levels, and for those interested in a shorter excursion a connector trail is available midway that allows for a 4.9-mile circuit. Either way, the loop is a great opportunity to experience northern Maine’s remoteness and wildlife abundance.
