This hike is over 5 miles but gets a 2-paw (moderate) rating because the elevation gain is minimal. Silver Lake shares the same approach as Mount Moosalamoo for the first half mile, but after that it is an entirely different hiking experience taking you to a pristine lake with an interesting past.

This area is great. Set up camp at one of 15 tent sites and then set out to circumvent the lake. The hike is easy and relaxing with the creek winding along with you. There are usually a fair number of people camping although there was only 4 sites taken the weekend we camped but everyone had a dog. The sites provide a picinic table and fire ring with grill to cook on. The fishing, without a boat, is not spectacular but we did manage 2 brookies and a perch, oh and an unfortunate young bass that got a hook in the eye. It was tasty nonetheless.
