I recently went to Hancock with a friend of mine to hike a few mountains. Nothing huge just a nice day hike. We planned a 3 day trip in all. The first day we climbed a nearby off trail mountain and stayed on the peak for the night. Day 2 we climbed down and found another nearby peak. The final day we looked around and we found the Long Trail. We went both north and south to see what type of terrain there would be and we saw that there was a small lake if we headed south so we decided that would be a good decision. It was about a 20 minute walk (all on trail) and we came upon this quite little lake that was teaming with wildlife. Countless frogs, birds, and even some snakes. There were signs of deer and moose but unfortunatly we never came across either. If you are ever in the area of Hancock or Middlebury VT you should head up RT 125 and find the intersection of the long trail and head south. Not only was this lake quite there were also some great views of the north as you hike to Pleiad Lake.
