Are you familiar with that kids’ game, Scissors, Paper, Stone? This hike abbreviates that to “Stones.” You’ll be stepping over egg-size stones, fist-size stones, stones like boccie balls, and some that are larger than cantaloupes— really big cantaloupes. Don’t worry . . . boardwalks and bridges carry you over the worst of those, preventing this from becoming a prolonged exercise in ankle-aching agony. Meanwhile, the many winding streams, bird-filled stands of cedars, and a pair of thrilling boulder cataclysms add up to an excellent, memorable outing.
