You know those Western hikes in which miles go by with only the cacti or an occasional butte lending variety to a uniform landscape? This trek is cut from different cloth, with so much diversity spilling out of it you’ll hardly feel the hours slip away.
In addition to five scenic lakes, towering bluffs, no end of streams, glacial erratics by the truckload, and a number of memorable ruins, these woods are inundated with wildlife (including black bears), birds beyond count, and a spring flower display any horticulturalist would envy.
