So many fascinating places to explore that one visit is probably not enough. Buckley Dunton Lake is the largest body of water in October Mountain State Forest, the largest state forest in the commonwealth. A trip around the shore brings you through a series of shallow bays, some full of drowned stumps, others carpeted with boggy marshes full of interesting wetland plants and wildlife. There is even the chance a moose might show itself in the shallows of the north bay. What you won’t see is a lot of people or cabins. The lake is almost entirely undeveloped and invitingly private. Just what you need to unwind and enjoy life.
