A high-energy ride up single-track trails to some of the highest-elevation ponds in Massachusetts. Pittsfield State Forest is a long, narrow preserve that protects the steep slopes and rounded summits of the central Taconic Range. Most of the dozens of trails follow the many ravines that drain the mountains, so the choice of trips through the forest seems nearly endless. This trip covers terrain that is typical of other routes within the state forest. It also takes you to a pair of scenic ponds including Berry Pond, the highest-elevation pond in all Massachusetts.
