When you journey to Warren Island, you’ll see the truth in the statement “half the fun is getting there.” Warren Island is, after all, an island—you can’t drive there, you can’t hike there, and you certainly can’t park an RV there. You can get there by kayak or canoe, one placid paddle stroke at a time. You can also get there by motorboat or sailboat, but most of the people you’ll see camped out on Warren Island arrive by sea kayak. Most of the island’s campsites are spread along the shore; the rest are located toward the center of the island. There are six primitive tent sites, three group sites, and three Appalachian Mountain Club–style lean-tos. The day-use picnic sites and the overnight camping sites are available by reservation or a first-come, first-served basis. The only site you can’t reserve is site 12, on the western shore of the island. The number and configuration of the sites does change, so please check when you make reservations.
