This ride north and west of Berlin takes you through an area of the White Mountain National Forest that sees far fewer visitors than the hot spots to the south. It follows a dirt forest service road for most of its length, sometimes paralleling the Upper Ammonoosuc River as it meanders through the valley to the east of the Kilkenny Range, which tops out on Mount Cabot, the northernmost of New Hampshire’s 4,000-footers. The ride has the occasional view of the nearby peaks, but its real appeal is the solitude afforded by the remoteness of the roads and the quiet beauty of the forests.
