The longest trail on Isle au Haut takes you through the woods and over rocky coast and passes a 0.2-mile spur trail to Deep Cove, where you can view some spectacular sunsets. Duck Harbor Trail is the only footpath that leaves from the year-round boat landing in town, and its 3.8-mile length must be backpacked by campers with off-peak reservations at Duck Harbor Campground. From the ranger station, just 0.3 mile southwest of the town landing on the paved road, the blue-blazed trail immediately goes through a boggy area with plentiful skunk cabbage before entering an evergreen forest. At 1.7 miles, at the junction with the Bowditch Trail, bear right (south) and soon cross the road that circles the island.
