A relative newcomer to the Massachusetts Forests and Parks system and part of Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), this 401-acre park has all the earmarks of an up-and-coming star. The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has slated improvements for facilities, trails, and roads, but even as the park struggles through infancy, hikers find enjoyable discovery. Crystalline-sand beaches; vital ponds and wetlands; nesting piping plover, tern, and osprey; and an off-season wilderness solitude all recommend a look. Located on the SW corner of Cape Cod. An inland nature trail and pair of beach hikes explore the park offering. Special attractions: Coastal and bay beaches; estuarine and freshwater ponds; marsh, coastal shrub, and woods habitats; bird watching; surf fishing; beachcombing (no collecting).
