Seeing the sunset from Osio Rock is memorable, but completing the hike in darkness can be tricky unless you’re adventurous—or there’s a full moon— and you bring along flashlights and spare batteries for everyone. A cell phone can make all the difference in an emergency but only if it works. Remember, if you don’t know exactly where you are, you won’t be able to transmit that information. A handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) can help, but if you’re in a dense wooded area, it won’t be able to detect your position.
Everything has its benefits as well as drawbacks, and that’s why it’s important to keep blazes in sight. Even in full daylight hiking here among the boulders is sometimes rough, but the exceptional views throughout the hike repay the effort. Sturdy shoes are a must and a walking stick will come in handy.
