The Mahoosuc Range straddles the Maine–New Hampshire border northeast of the White Mountains. Even by New England standards, these mountains are remarkable for their ruggedness. Mahoosuc Notch slices through the heart of the range, a deep cleft filled with enormous boulders and traversed by the Appalachian Trail (AT). It is one of the most challenging sections of trail in New England and readily earns its moniker as the AT’s Hardest Mile.
