This is a pretty long daytrip. Many options exist, and opps to cut the trip short. Gertrude is not an easy girl to visit. Using the Milbrook Ridge trail, you are treated to many vistas. By the time you reach the Milbrook Summit, many would want to turn back. Don't. The extra mile each way is worth it. Gertie has a beutiful nose, and lunch on the ledge was quite peaceful. There is an apparently easier approach to the nose via the lake, I've heard. If you want the max experience for your dayhike, opt for the ridge loop. The trail wasn't technical, but the cracks in the ground can do damage if you aren't careful.
