The George Shiras III Discovery Trail encourages hikers to step back into history and consider not only the impact that we’ve had on the land over the last centuries, but also the impact that these places have had on us. The trail wanders along the lake plain under speckled alder shrubs and old-growth hemlocks before rising along an easy slope out of the lake plain and into boulder-strewn forests of young maple and beech. The diffuse green of sunlight through the leaves mingling with songbird tunes drifting down from above lends a fairy-tale air to the landscape here.
