If you like shoreline hikes it is pretty hard to go wrong when your outing starts at the rustic parking area known as Gould City Township Park. Walk east or west from there, along the Lake Michigan coast, and peace and quiet are as commonplace as the broad lake vistas, waves, and eagles. Special considerations: This hike is an off-trail shoreline route. While most of this coast is pleasant hiking, occasional rock gardens and cobble may be challenging. Be aware that shoreline routes are glorious in good conditions, but they can be merciless in their exposure to high winds when the weather is rowdy.
