This hike is a charmer, with a bit of a daydreamlike feeling to it. First there’s the stroll down the Lake Superior shoreline, a pleasant beach that turns to gently sloped sand- stone bedrock scalloped by waves. Farther down the shore are the ribs of shipwrecks and the Au Sable Point Lighthouse. Then the route follows the Lakeshore Trail to a viewpoint perched 300 feet above the lake, a lookout with a sweeping view of the spectacular Grand Sable Dunes.
