Grand Island, aptly named and 8 miles long, is an o shore version of Pictured Rocks. Its quiet north end features miles of scenic sea cliffs, a near mirror image of its mainland sibling. While Grand Island has no shortage of its own attractions, the views of that craggy mainland coast from Trout Bay Overlook are remarkable. This hike features an abundance of junctions; most have directional signs. These intersections do not have names, however, so on the map they have been designated as Junction A, Junction B, and so on, to avoid confusion. Begin your tour at Williams Landing, walking north on a sandy dirt road to Junction A at Mile 0.1. Turn left (west) on a grassy road that runs a tad inland from the island’s shore through a hardwood forest with a sprinkling of hemlocks.
