Laughing Whitefish Falls, plunging 100 feet into a scenic gorge, earns mention as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Michigan. Picture a 15-foot free fall that sets the stage for the main act, an 80-foot-high bridal train of whitewater tumbling down a rock apron. The striated texture of the rock bounces a zillion small ripples skyward, each sparkling in midday light. Below the falls the river settles into a scenic gorge, lined with springs, mossy corners, and old-growth white pine and hemlock. A fine maple-beech forest graces the plateau above.
