On top of the beautiful rivers, bluffs, glades, forested ridges, and deep hollows you find on Missouri hikes, Washington State Park has fascinating petroglyph displays etched into its rock outcroppings. Two-thirds of Missouri’s known petroglyphs are found here, and the park’s trails lead past the two best groupings of these haunting relics.

When I first hiked this trail in the Spring (3/07) I really enjoyed it. I recently returned and it felt like a completely different trail - the ponds were half dry so this may be a worse than normal year but I downgraded my rating from this winter hike to an average trail.

This trail was pretty, but not very long and not at all challenging. It's good for an after dinner walk or for someone who is not interested in hills. The landscape is more interesting as you progress down the trail and there is a branch under construction that might make this a better spot for exploring in the future.
