Once a (real) dump, this area was transformed by some enterprising beavers into a viable habitat, and not only for themselves. Today more than 50 bird species nest here each year. Since the National Park Service (NPS) built a wooden boardwalk across the marsh and connected it to the popular Towpath Trail, humans can enjoy its serene beauty too.
