This popular hike enters the Chequamegon National Forest and takes you to an unusual and scenic waterfall, tumbling 80 feet down a narrow channel in a gorge. From there the trail rises to the highest point in the county with a view all the way to Lake Superior and the Bayfield Peninsula. Morgan Falls, plummeting 70 feet down a granite slab, earns mention as the prettiest waterfall in the state. That cascade combines with a notable viewpoint, St. Peter’s Dome, to make this an outstanding hike.
This trail has its rough spots, but the attractions are worth it. Much of the route, particularly past Morgan Falls, is an eroded jumble, with roots and rocks waiting to trip the careless. Begin your tour from the southeast corner of the trailhead parking lot, where a well-worn trail leads east. Follow that route through a forest of maples and birches to
a small stream at mile 0.4, Morgan Creek.
