The hike up the Split Rock River, one of the state’s most scenic, offers a water-carved gorge, a rigorous walk, waterfalls and rapids, quiet woods, and a marvelous view of Lake Superior--all in one hike. It takes you upriver along the west side of the beautiful, winding Split Rock River, crosses it, and returns down the east side. Along the way, sights include the magnificent gorge the river has cut into pink rhyolite flows and many rapids and falls that fill the canyon with their soothing sounds. The splendor of this North Shore river is punctuated by the sound of a number of songbirds. Either before or following your hike, visit the Split Rock Lighthouse and learn about the unique history of this breathtaking site.

My husband and I were pretty ambitious when we ventured out on this trail. We love to hike but rarely get the chance to. By the time we were at the end of the trail we were exhausted. The trail itself is absolutely amazing it takes you through all sorts of terrain. It goes to the top of a cliff where you have a beautiful view of Lake Superior, through woods, by a water fall and shallow river (a great place to dip your sore feet). Even though we were sore and tired by the end of this hike I would defiantly recommend this trail. (pictures added)

This place is a gorgeous place to be out and about in, and it has historical significance as well. A great family or romantic place to stop by on a vacation.

Beautiful view of Lake Superior from top of cliff. Reminds me of the coasts of Maine.
