With more than 4,900 acres within the park’s boundary, Elm Creek Park Reserve naturally represents one of the longest hiking loops in the state. The 10-mile Hayden-Lemans Lake loop encircles most of the northern half of the park. This same area is ground moraine of the Des Moines lobe of the Wisconsin ice age glacial material. The combined watershed of this area drains more than 70,000 acres, nearly one-third of Hennepin County. It is through this expansive drainage area that this paved hiking trail leads.
