As well groomed and nicely developed as this park unit is, I was surprised to find such rustic, natural trail segments. Spring Lake Park Reserve has been called the “hidden jewel” of the Upper Mississippi. Like so many other hikes along the Mississippi corridor, the Schaar’s Bluff trail system showcases the scenic bluff area of the Mississippi in a widening of the river called Spring Lake. The park is only a few miles upstream from the confluence of the St. Croix River.
