Typical of converted railroad beds with long straightaways and graceful curves, this trail courses through a beautiful southern Minnesota river valley. There are several points along the river where you can stop and enjoy views up, down, and across this gently flowing river (with occasional riffles). Like most trails developed from converted railroad beds, the Cannon Valley Trail is a long, flat corridor stretching across the country side between two communities. In this case the countryside skirts the banks of the Cannon River as it meanders lazily between Cannon Falls on the west to Red Wing on the banks of the Mississippi River at the east end. This 19.5-mile stretch of paved trail is a bikers’ highway that is also great for hiking.

Nice, relatively easy trail. Most of the trial is actually a service road, but this park does not seem to be used much and it was very quiet. If you have aa portion afternoon (it can easily be walked in under an hour) where you would like to escape for a moment, this is a trail to consider.
