The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is only 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis. That and its 34 miles of river bottoms teeming with wildlife and natural amenities make it one of only four urban wildlife refuges in the United States. In my book, it’s one of the very best places to hike in the Twin Cities. Urban wildlife- and bird-watchers should put this on the top of their list of premier viewing areas near Minneapolis and St. Paul.
