One of the least-developed regional parks, and also the most rugged, with the trail going along steep glacial hills by Hanrahan Lake. Murphy Hanrahan has three lakes, a couple dozen ponds, some former farmland in varying stages of restoration to prairie, and oak-covered hills. It also offers prime wildlife habitat, including that for birds seldom seen in Minnesota: the hooded warbler, blue-winged warbler, and Acadian flycatcher. The land is some of the most rugged in the regional park system, worked into shape by glacial action. Here the hiking path climbs steep hills and descends alongside low pothole ponds to make for an invigorating, but short hike. Special attractions: Bird watching and kames (conical hills).
