This is a hike up Hallaway Hill to a scenic overlook of Lake Lida, a short trail to the state's largest ironwood tree, a forest demonstration plot, and miles of trails winding around lakes, marshes, and climbing hills. Special attractions: Overlook of the lake; state's largest ironwood tree, and a swimming beach. Visiting this 9,000 acre park today, one would be hard pressed to imagine the old town, since most of the habitat has reverted back to its wild nature. Here, thick forests grow on the hillsides, birds chirp in the marshes, and beavers and muskrat make their homes in over forty ponds and lakes. The park is positioned at the intersection of three ecological zones—prairies, hardwoods, and coniferous forests, a combination that gives the park a great diversity of wild- and plant life.
