A trail accessible only by boat. The rough trail runs upon bedrock, by beaver dams and up to a high ridge above Cruiser Lake. Voyageurs National Park’s thirty lakes occupy some 38 percent of the park’s 217,892 acres. Another trail, called Locator Lake Trail, is found farther west on the peninsula, and hooks up with a chain of lakes that are ideal to explore by canoe. By hiking in the park, one joins a long history of exploration in this region, beginning with the French-Canadian voyageurs who paddled this water highway in search of pelts, then miners who looked for gold (they extracted $5,000 in ore), followed by lumberjacks who took their share of the trees. Then, fishermen harvested lake sturgeon from its waters, and the land even saw a small blueberry-picking industry spring up among its numerous patches. Today, it has reverted back to a wilderness where wolves roam unbothered by civilization. Special attractions: Canoes at Cruiser Lake (canoe reservations can be make at the ranger station), scenic views, numerous beaver ponds, and a waterfall.

The Cruiser lake trail system in a network of function trails that connect several interior lakes on the Kabetogama Pennisula. The cruiser trail is incredible in the fall!!! No bugs, incredible rock outcropping that cast the colors of the fall foliage. The trails is diverse and captures the beauty of Voyageurs with wonderful campsites (the one on cruiser lk. is wonderful), geological wonders, and northern Minnesota coniferous forests. Wow, wonderful trail and include a sea kayaking adventure crossing the waterways and islands of Lake Kabetogama is even better!
