A 2.4-mile trail through beech and maple hardwood forests, fields, and pine plantations. One of the few trails in the National Lakeshore system that do not provide a view of the dunes. This rich woodland supports a variety of life dependent on the changing seasons, with wildflowers and morels abundant in spring, songbirds and shade in summer, and vivid foliage in fall. The Shauger Hill Hiking Trail is one of the few trails in the park that don't provide a view of the famous dunes that give the region its name. This inland trail loop provides a look at the "other" side of the dunes area: the forests that hold it all in place along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
