Hiking and cross-country skiing trails in the inland portion of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. An off-shore trail system offering a unique look at the "rest of the story' of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, including glacial terrain, upland and wetland habitats, wildlife, and, in season, carpets of wildflowers. The Alligator Hill system is one of the few trail systems in the park that does not provide a panoramic view of the lakeshore. But these inland trails are just as important in understanding the complete picture of the Sleeping Bear region, offering a look into the nature of the region that was also carved by retreating glaciers and years of wear from lakeshore breezes and Michigan winters. The trails weave through a mixture a field and forest habitats that attract large numbers of birds and other wildlife. In springtime, the trails are bordered by a rich mixture of wildflowers.

A nice change up from the sandy hikes this area normally offers. Great for trial running. Lots of hills. Try running the trial in reverse if you want a intense climb on the advanced trial. Also the road labeled 209 on the map should read 109 and the name of the road labeled "Day Forest Road" is actually called "Farm Day Rd" or "Farm Day Rd.". Do not miss the look out over Glen Lake if the day is sunny it is absolutely amazing! There also also quite a few side trials not shown on the map that dead end.
