Hiking Central Florida

Took my 2 pups on the short river trails hike. Pretty vanilla hike to the river but if you take the side loop once you get to the river it's a nice little add on if you're in the mood for a short hike. Was a warm day so it worked out perfectly for me and especially the dogs. While walking the loop I got startled big time by a wild boar and her piglets. For a split second I thought it was a black bear although since moving to FL from Louisiana I haven't seen any yet. Good thing momma took off and piggys followed. Run in with a angry mom would've ruined the day for sure. If you're going canoeing or kayaking it's a great trail to launch from as it has a nice ramp and deck overlooking the beautiful river.
This trip was wonderful. The water is crystal clear. I saw a lot of bottom feeder fish. The Rhesus monkeys are along the path. There are two different stories to why they are there. Either they are escaped monkeys from the Tarzan movies or a Jungle cruise operator placed them on an island. The monkeys then swam off the island. It is a nice run. I took it slow and took 51/2 hours to do the round trip. When you reach the springs you can listen in on the boat rides from the attraction. Lots of turtles to see. I only saw one gator. Week days are best to travel on. The current is not too fast. 5 dollars to park at Ray Wayside Park. No place to get out and stretch your legs.
