The Sam Knob Summit Trail is an out-and-back trail to a perfect picture-taking spot on a high-elevation knob. Or, you can create a loop trail by combining the Sam Knob with the Flat Laurel Creek Trail, which is the trail described here. Pass along a trail lined with high grasses and such shrubby vegetation as mountain laurel, azalea, rhododendron, and berry bushes, as well as many colorful wildflowers in spring, such as the delicate-looking thyme-leaved bluets, and asters and goldenrod in fall.
