Hiking the Shining Rock Wilderness one rainy spring afternoon, I ran into a couple from Kansas City who had been hiking the region for the past week. We traded notes on trails we’d hiked; when they mentioned DuPont State Forest and the waterfalls, she added, “They were cute.” Cute? Now, if they were from Buffalo, say, then sure, maybe they are cute—in comparison to the mighty Niagara. But they were from Kansas City! Saw a nice fountain there once. Some OK faucets, too. Within 3 miles at DuPont, you can take in three falls that are anything but cute.
