Mount Jefferson rises 1600 feet above the surrounding countryside, offering views of the Blue Ridge and fields, farms, and the town of West Jefferson. Impressive as Mount Jefferson is, it is but a fraction of its size during its heyday some 300 million years ago, when it and surrounding mountains towered 20,000 feet or more. Perhaps more impressive, though, is the variety of flora you’ll find as you hike Jefferson’s nearly mile and a half of mountaintop trails.
