The majority of the 11 miles of trails in this 376-acre preserve follow the shoreline of High Point City Lake. Thus, you’ll find good lake strolls that are particularly rewarding during the fall foliage display, when the rich reds, yellows, and maroons of autumn are enhanced by the lake reflections. Start your hike on the Bill Faver Lakeshore Trail, which departs from behind the Piedmont Environmental Center. The center has a number of short themed loops in its vicinity, one of which you’ll encounter within a couple of hundred yards. Take a left onto the purple-blazed Wildflower Trail for a 0.2-mile excursion through a part of the preserve rich with wildflowers (stop by the environmental center first to see what’s in bloom).
