Count on a mile’s stroll through the re-created Colonial home and farm at George Washington Birthplace National Monument. Though merely a mile long, the noncontiguous nature trail is a pleasant addition, especially if you plan a picnic.

This is my favorite trail in the Richmond area. It is relatively easy, takes about 45 minutes to cover all the trails, and has a couple hills where you can break a little sweat for your work out. The historical signage is top notch, and the civil war trenches as some of the best I've seen. I rarely see anyone else while I'm there.
