Great hike up, but was strenuous(sp?). Was tempted to turn back and take the bus (wimp), but I didnt. Some younger folks seemed to make it much easier than me. The buzzards roost was the best part, fewer people. I was able to lay on a rock and listen to the "Into the Wild" soundtrack while dozing and watching clouds billow by for 30 minutes with no one else around. I felt like I was on top of the world. 4 stars is cause of all the people.
We hiked Fallingwater Cascades and loved it! A relatively short hike, about 1.6 for the whole loop, but a the view of the falls was excellent. There are several places along the trail where you can walk over to large boulders and enjoy the view. We found one such place and had lunch as the water cascaded around us. Very nice for a half day trip
Before taking my wife to stay at the Peaks of Otter lodge in Bedford VA, I decided to look up day hikes in the area so that we could spend some quality time together. Trails.com supplied me with not only all of the local hikes, but so much history along with it. We took the "Falling Water" cascades hike and saw God's handi-work in the beautiful setting of the Jefferson National Forest, and we also took a hike to see an old farm that the NFS maintains so that tourists are able to get an idea of what life was back then. Thanks so much Trails.com, my investment in your service has already proven to worth it; Gene
Hike to Sharp Top is some what steep at times but overall very enjoyable. Several places provide scenic views and near the top interesting rock formations. The view at the top is great. Also, there is a rustic cabin at the top if you are caught in bad weather.
I like this trail best in the winter when the crowds are few. The view on the way up while on top are also great when the leaves are off. Steep trail but easy enough!
