A picturesque streamside hike from the banks of the New River to the rim of the gorge. Perhaps better known for white-water rafting and rock climbing, the New River Gorge National River contains more than 70,000 acres of land bordering the waterway. This land, managed by the National Park Service, contains a multitude of hiking trails. Glade Creek Trail is a wonderful hike along the beautiful trout stocked banks of Glade Creek. A hiker who is also an angler will do well to add some “line time” on this hike; the fishing looks that good. A fine idea would be to pack the rod and camp either along the trail or in the camping area. The stream is catch-and-release from the parking area to a footbridge 3.0 miles upstream. Special attractions: New River, beautiful trout stream, deep gorge, wildlife.

The road to the northern trail head was closed. The directions to the southern trail head were totally wrong. We had to buy a bag of apples from some old guy's fruit stand to get good directions! It was so late in the day that we really only got to do about 2 miles of the trail Kates trail. The views on the Kate's trail were very nice. Couldn't find the actual trail head for the Glad Creek trail. Update directions to Southern Trail head: exit I-64 onto 307 South. About a half mile after the two gas stations turn left onto an unmarked gravel road. Descend on the gravel road until you get to a bridge. You should see the Glad Creek sign there.
