This loop climbs a high ridge to a wooden tower with a great view to the west. A pleasant walk along a high ridge leads to a steep drop back to the Greenbrier River. Watoga State Park, West Virginia’s largest state park, encompasses a total of 10,100 acres. The 330-mile Allegheny Trail snakes along the eastern boundary of the park, and the scenic 81-mile Greenbrier River Trail borders its western end. In addition to hiking, the park offers many recreational activities, including swimming, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, tennis, tubing, and horseshoes. The park also has two campgrounds as well as rental cabins for those looking for more comfortable lodgings. Special attractions: The Ann Bailey Observation Tower and the hike down Rock Run.

The Allegheny Trail portion of this hike I help build almost 30 years ago. I use this portion for a long trek from Watooga State Park to US Rt 33 east of Elkins. A hike of just over 100 miles.
