Tucked away in a rural section of Montgomery County, Rachel Carson Conservation Park is a hidden gem mostly used by local residents. The park is quiet and offers easy hiking trails with slight inclines and varying scenery. This small park honors Rachel Carson, the writer, environmental activist, and Montgomery County resident, by conserving 650 acres in the Brookeville area. As the trail starts, you will be walking along Fox Meadow Loop, a wide grassy path along an open meadow with bird feeder boxes—a walk in these woods may offer a chance to see and hear forest birds such as the Kentucky warbler and ovenbird. The trails are well marked, and county volunteers do a good job at maintaining this lightly used recreation area. The trail is open to horses.
