In southeaster Prince William County, Leesylvania State Park is a place where hikers can commune with nature, admire the Potomac River, and visit sites associated with Virginia’s Lee family. Leesylvania State Park is named for owner Harry Lighthorse Lee, who was a Revolutionary War hero. He was the father of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The 542-acre park is a popular warm-season destination for boaters and beach-goers. The riverfront gets crowded, and the boat engines roar. The shoreline has begun eroding, so the State of Virginia is building jetties parallel to the shoreline and covering them with aquatic plants. This hike, with only about 500 feet of elevation change, includes two short trails and other paths.
