Exploring Kentucky’s largest state park, this hike takes you to a nice spot on the Lake Barkley shoreline and into the surrounding woods. With 3,700 acres, this is the largest park in the state system. It’s also one of the most popular. As the “resort” part of the name suggests, it has plenty of amenities, including a handsome wood-and-glass lodge overlooking Lake Barkley. So despite the name of one of the park trails—Wilderness Trail—this is not a place for rugged, backcountry hiking. If you want that, go west a few miles to Land Between The Lakes. What this well-maintained park does off er is a stroll through lakeside woods with wildflowers and deer. Recent expansion of the park’s trail system now lets you do this loop route almost entirely on footpaths and, except for one brief segment, avoid roads.

I love this hike. I'm a beginner so this short trail is perfect for me. It has a really nice view of Lake Barkley and has nice wooden walking and even a swinging bridge!

My wife and I went on this trail for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. THere was beautiful foliage and it was basically empty. In 5 miles of trails we saw zero other hikers. We stayed at the State Park Lodge and it was very pleasant. They even provided us with a boxed lunch. 100% worth going.
