Prepare yourself for enchantment! The first time you cross the Mississippi Sound in summer and see this island materialize on the shimmering horizon, you will wonder why you waited so long for such an experience. It is truly an adventure. From the air the island appears as a small splotch of white on a vast palette of blue and green, with accents provided by the whitecaps of waves on the shallow shoals. If you swim while visiting the island, be aware that jellyfish are common in these waters in late summer, and stingrays can be found hiding in the sandy bottom. Neither is aggressive, but you and the jellyfish may wander into each other, and if you step on the stingray, it will respond by lashing out with its barbed tail, which can cause swelling and intense pain. Feel free to collect the shells you find on Petit Bois as long as they are uninhabited.
