Red Bluff Recreation Area is a forested enclave in a horseshoe bend of Huzzah Creek. The campground takes its name from the red hues in the cliff across the Huzzah. The light rusty color results from oxidization of iron compounds in the rock strata. American Indians called the bluff Painted Rock.

We hiked 14 mi. in 2 days on the N. Sylamore creek trial and this spot was an unexcepted surpise. We stopped and spent 15 min. enjoying Gunners Pool, and ate a snack.

Gunner Pool to Blanchard Springs on Sylamore Trail. Trail drops down to creek and runs through hills and pine forrest. People also use this trail for backpacking.
